Conservation of Mosaics and Historical Monuments

The conservation of historical monuments requires knowledge, experience, and a high degree of precision. For this reason, I approach every project individually and with complete dedication. As a conservator, I focus on protecting valuable historical elements, restoring their aesthetic appeal, and safeguarding them against further deterioration.

I work with stone, wood, and mosaics. My expertise also extends to sculptures, bas-reliefs, wayside shrines, and gravestones. When necessary, I also undertake projects involving larger structures, allowing for a comprehensive range of conservation services.

From Initial Assessment to Full Documentation

Every project begins with a thorough examination of the object’s condition. I then define the scope of the necessary conservation measures. If required, I conduct specialized research and prepare detailed expert assessments.

The next stage is the conservation process itself. In cases where material is missing, I can also reconstruct specific elements. Furthermore, I document the entire conservation process and provide recommendations for ongoing preservation, ensuring the owner is fully informed about the object’s condition.

Mosaic Conservation – Preserving Unique Artistry

Mosaics require particular care during conservation, as each individual piece is an integral part of a larger composition. Before beginning any work, I carefully analyze the materials, the technique used, and the specific character of the piece.

I specialize in the conservation of both historical mosaics and more recent works. I am also able to recreate missing sections based on surviving material. My primary objective is always to preserve the original form and character of the artwork.

Stone, Wood, Sculpture, and Architecture

My scope of work also encompasses elements crafted from stone and wood. I specialize in the conservation of sculptures, bas-reliefs, wayside shrines, and gravestones, and I also work on select features within public spaces.

Each material demands a unique approach; therefore, I select methods tailored to the specific properties and condition of the object. I also take into account the history and artistic significance of each piece, ensuring that any intervention is kept to the absolute minimum necessary.

Experience Backed by Proven Projects

I have gained extensive experience through numerous conservation and reconstruction projects. A particular focus of my work is the preservation of mosaics—for instance, I contributed to the conservation of the ceramic mosaic at the Kijów Cinema in Kraków.

That project involved work on over 325 square meters of mosaic. Additionally, in Toruń, I participated in the reconstruction of a mosaic by Franciszek Michał, based on an original design preserved from 1968.

Restoring the Original Character of Heritage Objects

Conservation is about more than just repairing damage; it is also about safeguarding the historical and artistic value of an object. In my work, I strive to strike a balance between preserving the original material and making any necessary additions or repairs.

If a heritage object requires a professional assessment, the best first step is a consultation. From there, we can define the scope of work and determine the most appropriate course of action.
